Spring has arrived and summer is soon to follow. This time of year I start to have cravings for the ultimate summer cocktail — margaritas! With Cinco de Mayo around the corner everyone is looking for an easy and delicious beverage to serve friends and family. Margaritas in restaurants and bars can have 300-500 calories per margarita. Most recipes are often loaded down with sweet additives such as margarita mixes or orange juice. This is typically to cover up the taste of a low grade tequila. The better the tequila, the fewer ingredients you should use in your margaritas.
Our favorite margarita has about 170 calories per serving with no high fructose corn syrup or added sugar. It is made with only 3 simple ingredients. Tequila, limes and agave nectar. We recommend Corralejo Reposado tequila, fresh limes from your neighborhood market and Monin agave nectar. There are other agave nectars in the grocery stores. Make sure to check carefully before purchasing. Some of the nectars are too thick and syrupy to mix well in a margarita. Look for a cocktail-ready agave nectar which is sold in most large chain liquor stores.
The Skinny Agave Margarita

Combine all three ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake for 15 seconds. Strain over fresh ice in glass. Garnish with wedge of lime. Enjoy!
For multiple guests: Simple formula. 2 parts tequila; 1 part agave nectar; 1 part lime juice.
We hope you enjoy your skinny agave margarita.
