A Look Back on 2020: TBPB’s Top 10 Posts

We finally made it to the final day of 2020.  As has been stated, this has been quite an interesting year.  We won’t go into all of the gory details that you have lived through and reviewed on End of Year TV specials.  There was a peaked curiosity for creating your own cocktails at home during the quarantines and shutdowns, which created an uptick in traffic at our little corner of the internet. We noticed that you like special cocktails for holidays and celebrations. Duly noted. We will be sure to bring you more of those in 2021. Join us for our yearly glance down memory lane with a look back at The Blind Pig Blog’s top 10 posts.

10. Butterfinger Bourbon Pie

We could not agree more that this delicious dessert belongs on our top list.  If you are a fan of Butterfinger candy bars, like Craig, this will be your best friend.

9. Fernet Branca Collins

The breakout cocktail of the summer. You could often see us sipping on one of these near the pool, so we are glad that you liked it too!  It is so delicious and light. Not only is it a great summer cocktail, but it is so very yummy anytime of year.  Look for this to start showing up on bar and restaurant menus!

8. Strawberry Aperol Spritz

The Strawberry Aperol Spritz was another satisfying summer cocktail that we shared with you.  The berries added the perfect amount of summer to an already classic drink.

7. Truly Watermelon Lemonade

Poolside and lakeside lazy summer days will never be the same without this easy on the go drink.  Trulys are one of the best selling hard seltzers, and we added a little more summer to the experience.

6. Red, White and Blue Smash

Celebrating the Fourth of July was a little more festive with this yummy, summer beverage. The colors were perfect for our nation’s birthday.

5. Holiday Margarita

The next three top posts were from the month of December with our holiday cocktails.  We agree with you that we found some delightful holiday cocktails to pump up the merry.

4. The Mistletoe

Yes, we couldn’t agree more that this cocktail was a great way to toast on Christmas Eve.

3. Pomegranate Paloma

This cocktail has become The Blind Pig household’s cocktail of the season.  It is so easy to drink and has just enough festive flavor for anytime of the year.

2. Boozy Peanut Butter Blossoms

Our yummy cookies were a hit at our house and in our holiday treat boxes.  We hope you and your family enjoyed this holiday classic cookie with a twist.

1. Ten Holiday Cocktails

As we said earlier, it was evident that holiday cocktails were on your mind and in your searches this year. Our top post for the year was a list of our best holiday cocktails.

We hope you have a safe and wonderful NYE.  We will be staying in and watching the ball drop from the comfort of our home.  Make sure to tell others about our blog, we would love to see our following increase in 2021!

Ten Holiday Cocktails to Make Everything Merry and Bright

Christmas Eve is upon us and you are most likely wrapping your final gifts and delivering special goodies to friends and family.  Craig is going to play Santa this afternoon and deliver our family holiday goodie baskets to friends and neighbors.  As you are making your final holiday plans we thought this would be a great opportunity to remind you of some special holiday cocktails.  Any of these spirited drinks pair nicely with a fire and some Christmas cookies, or make a great after dinner drink on Christmas day.

Christmas at The Blind Pig household has been pared down this year.  We are not traveling to see family, nor are we gathering with big groups, but these cocktails can help to make our celebration a little brighter as we look toward 2021 with hope and anticipation.

  1. Midnight Spice: This cocktail is one that we shared with you several years ago, it makes a delicious dessert cocktail.  It is also great for sipping on a little something around the fire.
  2. Spiced Manhattan was introduced to you as a Fall drink, but its bold flavor holds its own with rich holiday foods.  It’s the perfect cocktail for an evening toast.
  3. Punt e Mes Margarita: Margaritas are always a crowd pleaser.  This recipe has a robust flavor from the Punt e Mes. What better way to toast to Feliz Navidad!
  4. Punt e Mes Sangria: Are you making cocktails for a crew? The rich, bold flavor of the Punt e Mes Sangria will not only please your guests, but it will also keep you from mixing drinks as you entertain.
  5. Jingle Gin Punch: One of Rhonda’s all time favorites from The Blind Pig. How can you celebrate the holidays with out a little punch?
  6. Holiday Margarita: We took the popular margarita and added a little holiday to it.
  7. Merry Margarita: Another one of The Blind Pig Blog’s favs, this margarita is so easy to make, and yet so festive!
  8. Holiday Aperol Spritz: If you are a fan of the Aperol Spritz, this is fun way to spruce up the spritz as you celebrate.
  9. Pomegranate Paloma: This cocktail has been our house go to during the holiday season.  It is so pretty and festive and easy to mix.
  10. The Mistletoe: Another winner gin-based cocktail that has few ingredients and requires little prep.  You may even be able to earn an extra kiss from your sweetie if you mix up this beverage.

What are your plans for Christmas and New Year’s?  If you try out one of our cocktails, we would love to hear from you.

Our Blind Pig Family had a difficult time getting a good family pic this year for our Christmas cards. We did manage to find this one for the back of our card.

We wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2021.

The Mistletoe

Christmas is quickly approaching and this week we are happy to share with you an excellent Christmas cocktail.  Whether you are toasting on this Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, it is the perfect cocktail to top off your holiday celebrations.

This cocktail is quick and easy to make. There is no need for fussy ingredients.  It is light and a bit tart so it pairs nicely with a Christmas ham or delicious holiday sweets.

To make this delicious, festive cocktail you need your favorite gin, lemon juice, cranberry simple syrup and an egg white. There is a little bit of prep with creating your own cranberry simple syrup. It’s not very time consuming, but you will want this prepped before guests arrive.

We’ve made simple syrups in other recipes before, like in the Mojito and The Savannah Special.  Just follow the recipe or take a look back at our other posts.

Garnish this cocktail with some frozen cranberries and a sprig of rosemary and you have a holiday winner!

Boozy Peanut Butter Blossoms

‘Tis the season to do some holiday baking.  Blind Piglet #1 and Rhonda are getting started on our annual holiday goodie baskets today.  One of our favorite additions to our goodie basket is the delicious Peanut Butter Blossom Cookie.  This cookie is a wonderful combination of a peanut butter cookie with a Hershey’s Kiss plopped in the middle. This year we decided to add a little extra something to our Peanut Butter Blossoms and Blind Pig them up a bit.  Surprise!

Boozy Peanut Butter Blossoms are so easy to make and are always a fan favorite anytime of the year. We made ours with a basic family recipe that we got from Grandma Ruth.  To make these golden, buttery delights you will need flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, peanut butter, butter, egg, salt, baking soda, dark rum and chocolate kisses.  The addition of dark rum to this recipe increases the buttery richness of this cookie and pairs nicely with the peanut butter.

After mixing the dough, you will need to roll the dough into little balls.  Make sure to use the trick we shared with you in our post for Golden Mint Crinkles.  Spray your hands with some cooking spray before you roll the dough.  It makes for an easier time working the dough and creates a smoother texture that cooks evenly.

Boozy Peanut Blossoms are the perfect addition to a holiday goodie basket or packaged as a stocking stuffer.  Because Boozy Peanut Blossoms taste yummier with a glass of milk, rumor has it that this is one of Santa’s favorites! A word of warning: These did not last long at our house.  Make sure you save some for Santa.

Bring on the Merry with a Pomegranate Paloma

Did you try out last week’s Holiday Margarita?  We have another cheerful cocktail to share with you.  You may remember from past posts that Paloma’s are one of our favorite easy-to-fix cocktails for summer.  We  love the festive flair that pomegranates bring to cocktails during the holiday season.  We combined these two favorites for a cheerful pom paloma drink.

There are many pomegranate paloma recipes on the internet, but we have developed our own which earned six thumbs up (Craig, Rhonda and Blind Piglet #1)!  We make ours with blanco tequila (we used Espalon), pom juice, lime juice, cocktail ready agave nectar and Topo Chico with lime. Since this cocktail has 1.5 ounces of alcohol shared among too drinks, it won’t get you too tipsy under the mistletoe.

If you are viewing this post via email, please visit us at www.theblindpig.blog for a full printable recipe for the Pomegranate Paloma.

Pomegranates are always a great addition to any holiday cocktail. The fruity flavor gives a festive vibe without overpowering appetizers or desserts, the color is beautiful and looks great near any holiday spread, and its easy to garnish with rosemary or other holiday trinkets.  In fact, the color of the Pomegranate Paloma is such a beautiful, rich, red that you might see this pop up again if a certain team makes it to the Super Bowl!

Try out this easy-to-fix and drink cocktail tonight.  We’d love to hear what you think. More fun holiday ideas are on the way to you over the next few weeks.  We are hoping that we can get all of them in before we reach Christmas. (Fingers crossed!)  Good luck with your holiday decorating, shopping, and wrapping!
